For years I’ve had a bad knee from playing sport and running, and a bad back from sleeping on my kids’ bedroom floors. For years I woke up every night with back pain, and was always sore on a morning.

Back pain is a very common problem, with reports suggesting as many as eight out of ten of us will suffer from it at some point during our lives. Around 5.6 million working days in the UK are lost each year due to back pain, second only to stress.

Back pain is painful and inconvenient and affects our daily tasks. It is our bodies inherent protective mechanisms telling us that something has gone wrong. Often it is not usually serious and will eventually reduce in intensity within a few weeks as the body uses its self healing mechanism.

Many people seek the expertise of an osteopath and have treatment to address the problem quickly and prevent the problem from getting worse, becoming chronic and a long term problem.

Back pain can strike at any age, and can be the result of a sprain, strain, over/underuse of certain structures. Pain sensitive structures are  in abundance in the the back so let us help you by determining if its one of the many small muscles which control the movement or restriction in the number of complex joints or damage to the shock absorbing discs or supporting ligaments

How we can help?

Osteopaths are well known for treating back pain and patients report high satisfaction and great result with treatment. There is good quality evidence supporting the beneficial effects of manipulation for back pain. In fact the National Institutes for Clinical Excellence guidelines recommend osteopathy in conjunction with medical acupuncture for sub-acute and chronic low back pain.

Not one patient is the same!

Treatment is different in every individual and sometimes it might involve treating other areas in the body such as the hips or neck or even the feet and or knee’s.

The 360 degree approach

We may also offer advice on your lifestyle. Particularly if we feel something you are doing repetitively is part of the reason why you have back pain. We can offer advice on your posture and  give advice on diet and exercise or give you specific exercises in order to maintain complete Body Balance.

It’s a simple process. The ultimate aim is for us to make getting better less confusing for you.

With the benefit of time we promise:

To Listen

We promise to go beyond the normal 10 minute case history
Our Appointments are structured to allow more time to do so. Often the Diagnosis is in the history so it’s a important part of the process to listen to you.
