Sports injuries are common, in all of us, especially the healthy, active sports enthusiasts. Most sports injuries are avoidable, but commonly occur due to lack of warm up or cool down, improper use of equipment, or a common theme amongst the highly determined and active sports person is overtraining.

Enjoying life to fullest is definitely what we recommend at body balance, but over time our body begins to feel the stresses and strains and demands we've rightfully placed on it over time. At Body Balance we treat a number of people challenged by the pains and fatigue of conditions such as arthritis and help them adapt to the changes taking place.
We as stated, look at every person individually and in a completely holistic way. Our sound knowledge of the changes that occur over time, allows us to help maximise your overall health and try to prevent it declining not accepting any compromise due to pain.
Osteopathic techniques are gentle and effective for ensuring we keep you moving.
Movement is key; at Body Balance we can help you get on with your daily life and continue with your hobbies and interests and not be limited by pain and discomfort.
Pregnancy is an exciting family occasion and is not often thought of as a difficult time. However, it can be a very challenging time for mother and baby. There are changes taking place constantly. Not just physical changes but hormonal ones too contributing to an exciting yet turbulent journey.
For many women, pregnancy means having to cope with a whole range of symptoms, from back pain to heart burn and morning sickness.
As the baby grows in the uterus, its extra weight results in a changed centre of gravity and, as a result, the mother’s posture can change from week to week.
Osteopathic treatment throughout pregnancy can help the body adapt to the changes that are taking place. The safety of the mother and the baby is always the osteopath’s first concern.
As many as 2 in 3 women suffer back pain during pregnancy and more than half complain that this impairs their quality of life. By gaining weight as a result of pregnancy, women face their greatest postural changes. This can lead to varying degrees of discomfort and other possible long-term effects.
Secondary weight gain and breast enlargement also force changes in how a woman carries herself, sits and undertakes daily tasks.
Back and leg pain may result if she is unaware of how to handle these changes appropriately.
Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy assists the body to adopt the ideal posture ensuring efficient use of postural muscles. For women in subsequent pregnancies osteopathy will also help them with coping with the physical demands of looking after young children at the same time.
Gentle techniques are used to ease pain, reduce swelling and improve mobility where necessary. Treatment also aims to prepare the mother’s body for the birth. An osteopath can advise on positions in labour to help prevent back problems later and pain relief techniques for coping during labour. Exercise and stretching techniques will be offered as part of the Maternity Clinic consultation and treatment programme
Post Natal Care
After the baby is born, it is important for both mother and child to be checked to ensure that any variations that may have been created by either the pregnancy or labour can be addressed. Commonly Post-natal problems such as head- aches, coccyx pain and pelvic pain may respond favourably to osteopathic treatment, as will back, neck and shoulder pain associated with feeding.
The birth process is undoubtably stressful for mothers, but its not often thought that its just as stressful for baby! A smooth birth process allows baby’s body to adapt to accommodate the stresses and forces during normal labour. After birth, breathing, crying and suckling all help the baby in their early development.
Sometimes they may need help during this important neonatal stage. It may be that the forces during labour were particularly strong (because of a long labour or the use of forceps or ventouse, for example).
This may cause them to have some strains and tensions which may make them uncomfortable and manifest as:
Osteopathic treatment can help the baby to address the strains that may still be apparent and therefore help the baby to settle and feed more easily.
The treatments we offer are optimally suited to treat children of any age. Gentle techniques will be tailored to your child’s’ needs and everything will be fully explained throughout.
As a child grows it faces many challenges, some of which may affect the body. Imbalances and tension may result in the child suffering with one of a range of conditions such as:
Osteopathic treatment can help with restoring balance and therefore make your child more comfortable. Most children enjoy treatment and a growing awareness for their health educates them early to look after themselves.
In school children, problems might arise though excessive computer use, hunching over a laptop, or through carrying heavy bags to and from school. Some children may suffer with sports or other injuries. We can help to reduce those strains and aim to develop strategies with your child to help prevent them from recurring.
Providing the best treatment, tailored to your individual needs. Whether it is Osteopathy, Sports Massage, Medical Acupuncture, Personal Training or nutritional advice that you need.
